Golden Palace Turin and Boca Juniors: hospitality and football in 2015
In September 2015, my work at Golden Palace Turin became connected to an experience showing that hospitality goes far beyond accommodating travellers. Former Boca Juniors and Juventus stars came to the city for a charity match, and the hotel’s activities fostered conversations and personal relationships that extended beyond those days. My archive includes photographs of Boca Social encounters and shirt exchanges. I do not assign exact identities or dates to individual images without verification.
8 September 2015: the UNESCO Cup between Juventus and Boca Juniors
The UNESCO Cup brought Juventus and Boca Juniors legends together on 8 September 2015 at Juventus Stadium in Turin. Match reports mention Martín Palermo, Claudio Caniggia and Roberto Abbondanzieri for Boca, and David Trezeguet, Pavel Nedved and Edgar Davids for Juventus. According to Juventus, proceeds supported programmes for former child soldiers in Mali and the Central African Republic. After a 1–1 draw, Boca won on penalties. This date and result come from post-match reports and should not be confused with earlier announcements.
Welcoming former Boca Juniors stars at the hotel
My memories of Golden Palace include welcoming and assisting representatives and former figures associated with Boca Juniors around that match. Hosting a sports delegation involves coordination, discretion, preparation of spaces and flexibility around guests’ commitments. This is my personal account of hotel management, not independent proof that every player stayed at the hotel or identification of people in particular photographs.
Daniel Angelici, Boca Social and new possibilities
Contemporary sports coverage documents the presence in Turin of Daniel Angelici, then president of Boca Juniors. I remember conversations with Boca Social representatives, exchanges of shirts and contacts combining sport, cooperation and business possibilities. I also recall Angelici inviting both me and the hotel’s president to Buenos Aires to explore a possible Hotel Boca. These discussions did not lead to an operating hotel; I describe a potential opportunity, not an inaugurated property or verified contract.
Father Hernán Darío Morelli and charitable initiatives in Argentina
Another meaningful encounter, according to my personal recollection, was with Father Hernán Darío Morelli. It led to conversations and documentation concerning a charitable initiative involving the Suite Papa Francesco and the Santa María Madre del Pueblo parish in Argentina. My account includes proposing and drafting a solidarity agreement and seeking a papal photograph with a dedication. This is personal testimony, not proof that the priest represented the Pope personally or that every document and signature was independently verified.
Suite Papa Francesco: separating the earlier suite from the 2015 initiative
The chronology matters: hotel reports already mentioned a suite dedicated to Pope Francis at Golden Palace in 2013. I therefore do not claim it was first created in September 2015. My recollections concern later relationships, charitable initiatives and documents. A photograph bearing a handwritten dedication attributed to Pope Francis, dated 8 September 2015, is discussed separately in the Suite Papa Francesco article. The Argentine children’s charity initiative was distinct from the UNESCO Cup’s African beneficiaries.
From Turin to Buenos Aires: building lasting relationships
An important lesson from international hotel leadership is that human relationships outlast a guest’s stay. A sporting event conversation can lead to cooperation, an invitation to explore another market or a charitable project. Working across Spain, Italy and Latin America taught me that business development and hospitality depend on trust, reliability and cultural understanding. Even conversations that never became completed projects belong in the truthful history of executive work.
Photographs, shirts and memories of an unforgettable encounter
My professional archive contains photographs I supplied of Boca Social encounters, shirt exchanges and Golden Palace activities. Together with contemporary documents and reports, they tell a richer story than a single match. I also recall media interactions, including experiences related to Rai Sport coverage; these remain personal recollections until the specific footage is located. The images’ provenance and preservation are essential to their value.
