MEMORIES OF A GENERAL MANAGER | HOTEL DEL JUGUETE, IBI (SPAIN)
FROM ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN TO AN OPERABLE HOTEL
Not all the defining projects in my hospitality career involved managing a hotel after opening. Some required working upstream, at the critical point where the architectural project must become a viable hospitality business.
Hotel del Juguete in Ibi, Alicante, was one of those consulting assignments.

These contemporary images illustrate the hotel as it operates today and should not be presented as photographs of the original consulting assignment. Photographs remain on the hotel’s official website; reproduction requires appropriate permission.
My contribution focused on:
• Reviewing and adapting the project’s facilities and architectural design to real hotel operating needs.
• Translating the future guest experience into practical functional and operational requirements.
• Preparing the project’s Business Plan.
• Developing a ten-year input/output financial model to support long-range planning.
The hotel later became known for its family-focused, toy-themed accommodation, reflecting the town’s strong toy-making identity. Its promoter and team developed this distinctive positioning; my contribution was specifically in project-development and hospitality-operational consulting.
For investors and owners, the lesson remains relevant: a compelling concept needs an operating logic, a realistic building and a credible long-term business case.

Documented consultancy: Hotel de los Juguetes, Ibi (2010–2011)
A signed exclusive services agreement dated 24 January 2011 documents my appointment to provide hotel consultancy to IBIFUTURA, S.L. for the development and launch of the Hotel de los Juguetes concept in Ibi, Alicante. The preceding 2010 project dossier outlines a proposed four-star toy-themed hotel, designed to combine family leisure and business travel.
The plan envisaged 29 rooms, family accommodation, restaurant and café facilities, meeting space, educational and play activities, and phased development. It also described technological features and environmental considerations. These were project objectives stated in the plan, rather than a claim that every feature was ultimately delivered.
This assignment demonstrates my involvement at the strategic development stage: turning a distinctive hospitality idea into a defined operating and market-positioning concept.
Private professional records retained: signed consultancy contract (2011) and project dossier (2010). Financial and personal contractual details are not published.
